Common Business Scams

There is an entire market full of people that make money by targeting small business owners and individuals that wish to start their own business. The problem is even worse when it comes to home-based businesses, but even those wishing to launch a business outside the home are likely to fall for one of the many scams pushed out on a massive level. Most of the scams claim that you can earn thousands of dollars in a single week without ever leaving your home, while others claim that you can make more money than you dreamed of with little work on your part.

One of the most common scams is the how to make money fast. It is important to know that there are many opportunities available that are not scams but do require a large amount of up front work. This is an area where people refusing to do the work claim it is a scam because they were not able to sit on the couch and watch soap operas while making thousand of dollars a day. There are some scams that run on television or internet ads and offers a book, which contains everything you need to get free grants from the government, which pays for your startup costs. While the book does contain some useful information, it is the same information that you can find anywhere online, including on government websites. Many of the books are republished every year, but contain the same information as when the book first launched. The information is often out of date and sending any information will result in letters or applications returned to you because the address is no longer valid.

Another common scam is the real estate scam. You may have seen the scam advertised on late night television. The creators claim that you can buy homes and property for just a few hundred dollars and sell that property for a higher amount later. Many of the scams rely on the fact that the people abandon property and the government takes ownership of other property because of back taxes. You might have the chance to pay the back taxes on that property, but the government might still retain ownership, leaving you with an empty wallet.

Business mentoring companies warn against the mid-level marketing scams. The scam works by giving you a website or a group of products. You earn money every time you sell a product online or offline, but you earn more money by recruiting others into the company. Every time that person recruits another member or makes a sale, you earn even more money. The main problem with this scam is that you are competing with thousands of other people doing the same thing. When you see a scam that resembles one of these or uses similar techniques, you know that it is something that only benefits the original owner.
